meet the teachers
A product of the American Catholic school system, Jonathan Bautista began his educational journey as an elementary school student at Holy Family Grade School in Glendale, California. He continued his education at Loyola High School, where the Jesuits instilled in him the importance of being a “man for others” and his instructors cultivated in him a love for poetry and the written word. Jonathan continued his education at Cornell University where he graduated Magna cum Laude majoring in music, as well as majoring in English literature. As a student, Jonathan took advantage of opportunities to lead in the classroom and in the performing arts, experiences that honed his pedagogical interests and skills. He is currently in the midst of earning his Master’s degree through the graduate program at Mt. St. Mary’s University, where he hopes to earn his preliminary credential in single subject education with an English literature emphasis.
The 2022-2023 school year marks Jonathan’s eleventh year teaching at Christ the King school. He has and continues to wear many hats at the school. He began as the Academic Decathlon coach, music teacher, and choir director. He was responsible for the development of the Christ the King School yearbook and the supervision of the yearbook club from 2015 to 2019. In 2017, he launched the school’s first drama program consisting of both an acting troupe and a stage crew and culminating in a multi-night production run of full-length Junior Broadway shows. As head coach of the Decathlon team, his students have placed consistently in the top twelve or above in a field of one hundred or so schools in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. In the first ever online Decathlon competition in 2021, his team placed first overall in the local competition against schools from the Los Angeles and San Francisco dioceses and placed third in logic in the national competition. |
